How to Re Select the Last Selected Objects in AutoCAD & Civil 3D

Step-by-Step Guide:

Reselect Previously Selected Objects in AutoCAD / Civil 3D

If you accidentally deselect a group of objects after spending time selecting them, you can quickly restore the previous selection set.

Step 1: Select Your Objects

  • Select one or more objects in your drawing.

  • This can be any number of objects.

Step 2: Accidentally Deselect the Objects

  • Press Esc (Escape) or otherwise clear the selection.

  • The selected objects will no longer be highlighted.

Step 3: Start the SELECT Command

  • Click in the command line.

  • Type:

SELECT
  • Press Enter.

Step 4: Use the Previous Selection Option

  • When prompted to select objects, type:

P
  • Press Enter.

Step 5: Previous Selection is Restored

  • AutoCAD/Civil 3D will automatically reselect the most recent selection set.

  • The objects you had selected before pressing Esc will be highlighted again.

Quick Command Sequence

SELECT ↵
P ↵

When is This Useful?

  • You accidentally press Esc while selecting many objects.

  • You need to perform another command on the same group of objects.

  • You want to avoid spending time reselecting complex or large selections.

Pro Tip

The Previous (P) option recalls only the most recent selection set, so use it before creating a new selection if you want to recover your original selection.
