Create Alignment curve direction report from Civil 3D 2022

STEP BY STEP GUIDANCE BELOW

Step 1: Select the Alignment

Open your drawing in Civil 3D.

Click on the alignment for which you want to extract the curve directions.

This should highlight the alignment.

Step 2: Open Alignment Grid View

Go to the Alignment contextual ribbon.

Follow this path:

Alignment → Geometric Editor → Alignment Grid View

Click Alignment Grid View.

This opens a table showing:

  • Tangents
  • Curves
  • Spirals (if any)

Step 3: Show the Clockwise Column

Inside the Grid View, look for a column called Clockwise.

This column tells whether the curve is:

  • Clockwise
  • Counterclockwise

Example:

  • True = Clockwise
  • False = Counterclockwise

or sometimes it directly shows text.

According to your transcript, this feature is available in Civil 3D 2022.1 update.

Step 4: If the Column Is Missing

If you cannot see the Clockwise column:

Right-click on any column heading in the grid.

A list of columns will appear.

Tick Clockwise

This will turn the column ON.

Step 5: Select All Data

Click the first row.

Then hold Shift

Click the last row

This selects all alignment elements.

Alternative:
Right-click inside the grid and choose:

  • Copy Selected
  • or Copy All

I recommend Copy All.

Step 6: Paste into Excel

Open Excel

Click cell A1

Paste the copied data using:

Right Click → Paste
or
Ctrl + V

Now all grid data will appear in Excel columns.

Step 7: Keep Only Required Columns

Delete unnecessary columns and keep only these:

  • Entity Type
  • Radius
  • Start Station
  • End Station
  • Clockwise

Recommended report columns:

Curve NoRadiusStart ChEnd ChDirection
C1725420.18520.18Clockwise

This makes it cleaner.

Step 8: Remove Tangent / Line Rows

The pasted data will include lines/tangents as well.

We only need curves.

Sort the Entity Type column.

In Excel:

Home → Sort & Filter → Sort A to Z

Choose Expand Selection

This is important.

Step 9: Delete Non-Curve Rows

Delete rows that contain:

  • Line
  • Tangent
  • Spiral (if not needed)

Keep only rows where the type is:

Curve

Now your report becomes a pure curve direction report.

Step 10: Final Clean Report

Your final table should look like this:

CurveRadiusStart StationEnd StationDirection
Curve 1725420.18520.18Clockwise
Curve 2700520.18620.18Counterclockwise
